Canucks’ present, future discussed on ‘NHL @TheRink’ podcast

The present state of the Vancouver Canucks and what the future could look like was a big part of the discussion on this week’s episode of the “NHL @TheRink” podcast recorded Wednesday.

Kevin Woodley, NHL.com’s Vancouver-based correspondent, joined co-hosts Dan Rosen and Shawn P. Roarke to talk about the struggling Canucks and where they can go from here. Much of the conversation was based on revealing comments made by team president Jim Rutherford in his press conference with the local media in Vancouver on Monday.

Woodley, Rosen and Roarke talked about what could happen with the center Bo Horvat and if he will be traded, the future of center Elias Petterssonif goalie Thatcher Demko is the answer in net for Vancouver, center JT Miller‘s contract and changes that could be coming.

Woodley, who writes the “Unmasked” column for NHL.com, stayed on to talk goaltending, specifically about why he likes it. Jesus Saros of the Nashville Predators so much and why Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning is still the standard bearer at the position.

Rosen and Roarke also discussed about the resurgence of the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche, and why the New Jersey Devils are proving once again they’re legit and should be a dangerous opponent in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

They debated if and when the San Jose Sharks might trade defenseman Erik Karlsson, and the challenges behind that for both the Sharks and the team acquiring him. They also talked about Oilers center Connor McDavid and the numbers he might be able to put up this season.

The “NHL @TheRink” podcast is free and listeners can subscribe on all podcast platforms. It is also available on NHL.com/multimedia/podcasts and the NHL app.
