RALEIGH, NC – Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the following changes to the team’s hockey operations department: Earl Schwartz has been named compliance assistant, while Ellen Etchingham and Sidney Morin have each been named pro scouts.

Schwartz is an Ontario native who studied Sport Management at Niagara College. Prior to joining the Hurricanes, he was an author at TheLeafsNation.com, where he wrote extensively about NHL trends and developments, particularly related to the salary cap and other mechanisms laid out in the league’s collective bargaining agreement.

Etchingham has been writing about hockey since 2007, both on her own sites and for outlets such as The Score, The Walrus and the Taipei Times. In addition to sports writing, she has also worked as a corporate communications manager, editor and educator. Etchingham graduated from DePaul University with a double major in International Relations and Religious Studies.

Morin is a professional hockey player with the Minnesota Whitecaps of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). She has played professionally in Sweden and Switzerland over the past five years, garnering multiple defensive player of the year titles and winning the Swiss league’s MVP award in 2021-22. The Minnetonka, Minn., native also helped the United States win a gold medal at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Morin played college hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth, captaining the Bulldogs in her final two collegiate seasons and obtaining a degree in Marketing Analytics in 2017.
