Camille Lafaix Named Preseason “Midfielder to Watch” by United Soccer Coaches

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — With the 2022 season opener less than a week away, Cal Poly senior Camille Lafaix was selected as a “Midfielder to Watch” by the United Soccer Coaches.

Lafaix, a native of Los Gatos, Calif., was one of 38 midfielders in Division I women’s soccer named to the preseason watch list released Friday.

Last season, Lafaix became the program’s first USC All-West Region first team honoree in six years and finished fourth among Big West Conference players in goals with eight and sixth in points with 19.

Lafaix, the 2021 Big West Midfielder of the Year and an All-Big West first team selection, started 20 of 21 matches last year, scored three game-winning goals and tied for the second most shots on goal on the team (23). In 2019, Lafaix was named to the USC All-West Region third team, earned All-Big West honorable mention praise and received a spot on the Big West All-Freshman Team.

The watch list is made up of USC All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2021, who are returning in 2022. Sophomore Emma Brown was named a “Defender to Watch” earlier this week and a watch list for forwards will be released Tuesday, Aug. 16.
