Calling All Campers – and Fans

  • by

The offseason has been busy and profoundly productive for Kraken GM Ron Francis and the hockey operations group. The team is earning high praise for its work at the first two National Hockey League drafts in franchise history, with a prospect pool now ranked by media in the top third to top half of the league for highest potential and depth of players projected to play NHL. games.

It gets better. Francis and the Seattle brain trust added scoring prowess by signing the 2022 Stanley Cup-winning left wing Andrey Burakovsky and trading for Columbus right wing Oliver Bjorkstrand. Burakovsky’s 61 points including 39 assists in the 2021-22 regular season would have led the Kraken in both categories last year while Bjorkstrand’s 29 goals outpaced all Seattle scorers.

TRAINING CAMP CENTRAL

Perhaps even more impressive is this September’s “Kraken Training Camp Presented by Starbucks” will feature nearly 60 pros and prospects compared to some 40 players last preseason at Kraken Community Iceplex. This September, fans will have ample and free opportunity to check out the expansive group of players during numerous public sessions when the Kraken rookie camp begins next Monday, Sept. 19, followed by the full camp beginning Sept. 22.

The rookie camp and most training camp sessions will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis with doors opening at 8:55 am on days when head coach Dave Hakstol and his staff work to accommodate the size of two groups. the camp roster. The first training 40-minute session will typically begin at 9:40 am and the second group skates at 11:55 am or noon.

There will be fan giveaways on each day of training with more details to be announced. For fans who can’t make it to the Kraken Community Iceplex this month, the Sept. 22 opening-day noon session will be live-streamed on the Kraken website. Fans so inclined can stay for both workouts on double-session days.

Two days, Sept. 25 and 27, will be exclusive to Kraken season ticket members and Depths members in ticketed sessions. To gain access and attend on those dates, fans can become Depths members by joining here.

All Kraken fans take note: New this season, morning skates on game days will be at the Kraken Community Iceplex unless otherwise specified (sometimes coaches cancel to provide rest for players). The morning skates will be open to the public and another opportunity for fans to see their favorite players. The morning skates are typically 10:30 to 11:15 am with the first two sets for the team’s preseason home games Sept. 26 against Edmonton and Sept. 27 hosting Calgary.

Fans are advised that all dates and times are subject to change. Check the Kraken app, website and social channels for any updates. Unless noted, all training sessions and skates will primarily be on the Starbucks Rink, with occasional sessions moving to Rink 2.

Each of the Kraken’s preseason games will be televised. The first preseason game, the Sept. 26 home date against Edmonton, will be aired on ROOT SPORTS, as will the Oct. 1 home with Vancouver in town. The other four games will be broadcast on local KONG-TV.
