Cabrillo soccer teams post shutouts, stay undefeated in conference play

Andrea Estanquero had two goals and an assist, and the Cabrillo College women’s soccer team routed Foothill 12-0 in the teams’ Coast Conference South Division match Tuesday in Aptos.

Aubree Westjohn, Luz Ruiz and Kayla Puga also scored twice as the Seahawks (6-5-1, 2-0-0) turned in their highest goal total of the season. Westjohn has 16 goals on the season, which ranks her No. 1 in conference and No. 4 in the state.

Chantal Aguirre had a goal and two assists, and Annalee Robledo had a goal and an assist. Yasmin Ortega and Caroline Sullivan also scored.

Natalia Jimenez-Ortiz and Madison N. Corona each had two assists.

Goalie Jessica Zavala made three saves for the Seahawks, who host Evergreen Valley (2-6-2) in a conference crossover match Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Owls dropped to 0-6-1, 0-2-0.

Men’s soccer

At Cabrillo 2, West Valley 0: The Seahawks pushed their unbeaten streak to nine games with their win over the Vikings on Tuesday in Aptos.

The Seahawks (8-1-2, 3-0-1) play at De Anza (7-2-1) in Cupertino in a conference crossover match Friday at 4 p.m.

Girls volleyball

At Soquel 3, Harbor 0: Maddy Peterson each had 12 kills and 15 digs, as the Knights stung the Pirates 25-20, 25-18, 27-25 in the teams’ SCCAL match Tuesday.

Columbia-committed senior Kylee Eze had 12 kills and four blocks for the Knights, and Natalie Kamalani had nine kills and 19 digs. Kayla Rhee-Pizano had 33 assists and eight digs, and Jessie Dueck had 12 digs and three assists.

“Soquel’s pin hitters did a great job of attacking Harbor’s block and Soquel won the serve and pass game overall,” Pirates coach Matt Schutz said.

Harbor held a five-point lead in the first set but Soquel rallied for the win.

“I knew the team was capable, it was just a matter of execution,” Knights coach Haley Leifheit said. “It’s a testament to the team’s growth since we dropped a set to Harbor last time we played. I’m very proud of where we have come.”

Sophomore setter Maren O’Farrell had seven kills, 13 assists, and nine digs for the Pirates (20-4, 7-2). Sophomore middle blocker Sabine Kemos had nine kills, sophomore setter Sandy Eniquez had 21 assists and 10 digs, and senior libero Tara Biakanja had 12 digs.

On Thursday at 7:30 pm, the Knights (22-6, 8-2) celebrate senior night Thursday, when they host Scotts Valley, and Harbor plays at Santa Cruz

Aptos 3, Scotts Valley 0: The Mariners earned a 25-8, 25-15, 25-16 sweep in SCCAL play Tuesday.

Senior setter Morgan Lipman had 16 assists and 10 digs for the Falcons (3-7 SCCAL). Junior middle blocker Natalia Cash had seven kills and two blocks.

Girls tennis

Scotts Valley 5, at Soquel 2: The Falcons won three of four singles matches and two of three doubles matches to remain undefeated in SCCAL play Tuesday.

In singles action, Soquel’s Isla Garcia-McDougall defeated senior Emma Dyc-O’Neal at No. 1. After that, it was all Scotts Valley as senior Veronica Farquhar defeated Nancy Wu Zheng 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2; junior Stella Cheney defeated Elle Woods 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 and sophomore Sofia Niklaus defeated Avery Amsler 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.

In doubles play, the Scotts Valley duo of senior Livia Johnston and sophomore Erin Szymanski defeated Mia Gonsiewski and Mikayla Frieberg 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 at No. 1 and the Falcons’ junior combo of Maya Bensen and Samantha Warner beat Lola Weiser and Belemir Kulak 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. In the final match, with the sun setting, Soquel’s Ava Burke and Laine Barton defeated the Falcons’ freshmen duo of Maya Wexler and Julia Kennedy 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

Scotts Valley (7-0, 5-0) hosts Harbor on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Aptos 6, at SLV 1: Autumn Zaretsky, Tiana Smith and Jill Beltran won singles matches in straight sets to help the Mariners knock off the Cougars in their SCCAL match Tuesday in Felton.

No. 1 Coral Collins and Aviana Andrews, and no. 2 Madison Phillips and Anna Nacht won doubles matches for Aptos (7-2, 5-1).

SLV’s Claire Hamilton and Abi Krepellia won at No. 3 doubles.

Aptos won at No. 4 singles by default.

Santa Cruz plays at Aptos on Thursday at 4 pm

Girls water polo

Soquel 23, at Harbor 0: Stanford committed senior Quinn Healy had eight goals, three assists and three steals to keep the Knights undefeated in SCCAL play.

Addison Lane had three goals, two assists and six steals for the Knights (16-1, 5-0), and Olivia Harris had three goals, one assist and three steals.

It was the third time this season the Knights compiled 25 or more steals. They finished with 26, one shy of their season high.

Summer Stelck had two goals, six assists and three steals, and Leah Murphy and Ella Moker each had two goals, an assist and three steals. Autumn Anstey also scored twice and Amelie Stotland added a goal.

Goalie Grace Howard made four saves for the Knights (16-1, 5-0), who play at Aptos (12-7, 3-1) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Boys water polo

Santa Cruz 19, SLV 6: The Cardinals rolled to the win in SCCAL play Tuesday.

Senior Ashton Reedy scored three goals to lead the Cougars (2-4 SCCAL). Sandy Monowitz scored twice and Shelby Monowitz added a goal.

Senior goalie Koa Garties made six saves for the Cougars.

SLV plays at Aptos on Thursday at 7:30 pm

Women’s golf

ASC Preview: UC Santa Cruz’s Gillian Mendoza finished runner-up at the American Southwest Conference Preview on Tuesday.

Mendoza posted a 4-over-par 148 total at the Nutcracker Golf Course in Grandbury, Texas.

UCSC took third as a team with a score of 628. No. 8 UT-Dallas (610) won the team title, and No. 21 ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor (623) took second.

The Banana Slugs’ Riley Birch (157) took 10th out of 40 golfers, Alyssa Yee (158) took 11th, Mikaela Paracuelles (170) was 24th and Shalini Satish (172) took 28th in her college debut.
