Bulls want to re-sign Nikola Vucevic for ‘next three years’

Last year, the Chicago Bulls were one of the most average teams in the league. They missed out on the playoffs, but with the talent they have on the roster, they shouldn’t be struggling to get into the postseason. Now, they have some tough choices to make this summer if they want to remain competitive.

One of the biggest decisions the Bulls will have to make this summer is whether or not to bring back big man Nikola Vucevic, who will be an unrestricted free agent if Chicago doesn’t sign him to an extension by the end of the month. However, a report from Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times recently revealed that the Bulls want Vucevic back.

According to Cowley, the Bulls have no plans to blow things up this summer and want to bring Vucevic back on a three-year contract.

“Project “Blow Up” is not an option, according to Karnisovas, who seems fine with staying on the path of continuity,” Cowley wrote. “The organization is content to hold out hope for a miraculous Lonzo Ball recovery from three surgeries on his left knee, while beginning negotiations on Nikola Vucevic’s contract extension over the last week. The Bulls are looking to lock up the big man for the next three years.”

The trio of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Vucevic is fine, but it’s nothing special. And with the amount of talent around the league, it’s not good enough to bring Chicago a championship.

But if Karnisovas is intent on re-signing Vucevic and running it back, he needs to add depth around them.
