As the offseason rolls on, the Chicago Bulls will undoubtedly find themselves in the middle of some trade rumors. In its current state, the Bulls roster has no hope of winning a championship, and while the playoffs could be an attainable goal, it’s nowhere close to a guaranteed outcome.
In turn, they should be considering any and all options this offseason, from trading their stars and hitting the reset button to adding more talent and making a push. While the latter seems more likely, the former could have better long-term benefits, as they have some fairly solid assets to work with.
However, according to The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, none are too valuable. According to his recent trade rankings, which ranked every single trade asset in the NBA, DeMar DeRozan is Chicago’s most valuable asset, and he ranks 59th in the NBA in terms of trade value.
DeRozan was ranked one spot above New York Knicks wing RJ Barrett and one spot below Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins, listed in the “quality starters” section of the list.
At 34 years old, DeRozan is entering the latter stages of his career, and he only has one year left on his current contract. On the one hand, that could make him more valuable, as there is less risk involved in a trade, but on the other, the Bulls probably wouldn’t get a huge haul for him.
Add in the fact that DeRozan’s mid-range heavy scoring style wouldn’t easily fit in with any offense, and a potential trade could get complicated.
