The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission on Sunday launched a benchmark quality of service system to monitor the services of the country’s mobile operators.

Posts and telecommunications minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated the system as chief guest at a program held at the BTRC seminar room in the capital Dhaka.

BTRC chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder presided over the event where Posts and Telecommunications Division secretary Md Khalilur Rahman was present as special guest.

BTRC vice-chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed delivered the welcome speech at the program.

Mohiuddin said, ‘We have procured the system developed by German-based Rohde and Schwarz Company to monitor the services of the mobile operator companies in Bangladesh.’

The system is divided into four units in which two units are for vehicle-based monitoring and two units will be used as backup, he said.

He said, ‘Each vehicle-based system unit is connected with 24 terminals which are capable of monitoring the quality of the voice calls and internet data speed of the mobile operator companies under 2G, 3G and 4G network across the country.’

Besides, the system also reads the data of over-the-top apps, such as Google, Facebook and WhatsApp, he said.

The vehicles will move across the country and be able to read the quality of both indoor and outdoor data of the mobile operators, he said.

Mustafa Jabbar said, ‘Mobile phone users across the country are rising and ensuring the quality services is the responsibility of the mobile operators to attract the customers.’

Now mobile users can change the operator by using the mobile number portability service, he said.

However, the BTRC is working to ensure the safe and quality networking services for the mobile phone users across the country, he added.

BTRC director general (engineering and operations division) Brigadier General Md Ehsanul Kabir said that telecommunication service is one of the basic rights of people.

He said, ‘The system units are interlinked with a central system of the BTRC and able to read the quality of the services of the mobile operators on a real-time basis.’

‘Such opportunities will help us improve the service quality of the mobile operators,’ he added.
