Managing MLB teams is a difficult undertaking. However, former Giants manager Bruce Bochy found a more tasking position: coaching small children.
Speaking on KNBR’s “Murph & Mac” show on Friday, Bochy jokingly explained why he elected to return to manage the Texas Rangers.
“I got a grandson, he’s fired up, Braxton,” Bochy said. “He’s four-and-a-half now and so he’s playing T-ball… and I found this out last year when I was trying to coach T-ball, managing [in the] big leagues is easier.
“I blame this on Braxton. I said, ‘You drove me to this.’ “
The hosts then laughed after hearing Bochy’s comments.
Before Bochy’s quip regarding his return, the 67-year-old explained that he had discussions with his family on his return to managing in MLB again.
After a bit of persuasion, Bochy ultimately got the blessing from his family to manage again.
But Bochy initially didn’t think he would be returning to MLB after taking three years off.
It was only after watching baseball games and Rangers general manager Chris Young pitching Bochy the idea of managing the team that the three-time World Series champion decided to return.

With the Rangers, Bochy will take over a squad that has not made it to the playoffs since 2016.
Should Bochy lead a massive turnaround in Arlington in the 2023 MLB season, Rangers fans can thank his grandson Braxton for “pushing” him back to MLB.
