Brown Names Men’s Soccer Assistant Coaches

SCHENECTADY, ​​NY – Head men’s soccer coach Matt Brown has announced two new additions to his staff for the upcoming season, Assistant Coaches Anthony Scaravillo and Andrew Lehningbringing a total of 22 years of experience to the staff.

“I am delighted to welcome Anthony and Andrew to Union Men’s Soccer” said Brown, “Both coaches bring a different set of skills which will be extremely valuable to me and our student athletes. As a staff we can’t wait to get going and look forward to having the lads back on campus for pre-season.”

“I’m really looking forward to making this next step in my coaching career and working with Coach Brown at an amazing school like Union.” said Scaravillo, “From our first conversation, I could sense that there was a lot of potential and opportunity in this program. I’m really excited to start working with the group”

Scaravillio brings a wealth of soccer knowledge to the pitch. Most recently Scaravillo spent time with the Greenbush Youth Club holding positions as the Boys Coordinator and the Head Coach as well. While there, Scaravillo helped the team to a third-place finish in league play and an America East Tournament Quarterfinals appearance.

The 2016 graduate played for the Le Moyne College men’s soccer team and appeared in 53 games and was a captain for the Dolphins. Scaravillo scored three goals and added two assists as a midfielder in four seasons. Once graduating Scarvillo helped the Dolphins as a graduate assistant. He helped coach the Dolphins to a NE10 regular season championship and an NCAA appearance in 2019, while the team earned a 15th place ranking nationally.

About Lehning

“I am very excited to play a role in helping Coach Brown and the boys write the next chapter of a program with such a strong soccer history as Union.”, said Lehning.

Lehning brings 16 years of coaching experience to Union. Most recently Lehning has been a part of the Soccer Coaching Technical Staff at Christian Brothers Academy since 2018. Lehning also has knowledge and experience as a strength and conditioning coach as well. At Christian Brothers Lehning was responsible for working with the head coach to implement training aspects and was responsible for game management.

Lehning coached varsity soccer at Mekeel Christian Academy from 2009 to 2018. He coached boys soccer there from 2009-2014 before making the jump over to girls soccer from 2015-2018.

Union Men’s Soccer kicks off their season at home when they take on the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz on Thursday, September 1. The game starts at 7 pm from College Park Field.
