The Brooklyn Nets would be better off playing anyone else in the Eastern Conference playoffs other than the Philadelphia 76ers, according to an article by Bleacher Report on Wednesday. Ironically, if the playoffs started today, the Nets (sixth seed) would play the 76ers (third seed) in a best-of-seven series.
It’s understandable to see why Philadelphia is considered a bad matchup for Brooklyn. For one, the Nets have not done much to improve their frontcourt depth other than signing center Nerlens Noel. Noel is a solid addition to the roster, but he’s not the kind of big that has a chance at guarding Joel Embiid. Even though the 76ers have won all three games between the teams so far, only one of them was against this current roster.
More to the fact, Brooklyn is a hard team to read right now. They have had impressive wins over the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat, but have also had embarrassing defeats to the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks. At this point, we are learning more about the Nets with each passing game as the team develops chemistry among its rotation. Here’s what Bleacher Report had to say about the potential matchup between the teams in the playoffs:
“Brooklyn is still pretty thin up front with Nic Claxton and Nerlens Noel, allowing Joel Embiid the opportunity to feast inside. There’s the James Harden revenge factor to consider as well, given the way his Brooklyn tenure ended, and Ben Simmons will continue to receive a warm ovation from the Philly faithful when the Nets go on the road.
Brooklyn has enough talent to win a game in a potential series, but it would ultimately have no shot at taking the Sixers down overall.”
