Broncos cut DL Marquis Spencer, sign RB Devine Ozigbo

The Denver Broncos made a pair of roster moves on Monday afternoon.

First, the team waived defensive lineman Marquis Spencer with an injury designation. Spencer (6-4, 300 pounds) was selected by Denver in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL draft out of Mississippi State.

After spending most of his rookie season on the practice squad, Spencer was competing for a spot on the 53-man roster this summer before suffering a preseason injury. His most notable actions this offseason were starting multiple fights during a joint camp training practice with the Dallas Cowboys.

If he clears waivers, Spencer might be a candidate to return to the team’s 16-man practice squad next week.

After waiving Spencer, the Broncos filled his former spot on the roster by claiming running back Devine Ozigbo off waivers from the New Orleans Saints. Because Spencer’s spot was filled, Denver will still have to make five cuts on Tuesday to get down to an 80-man roster.

Ozigbo (6-0, 225 pounds) is a fourth-year running back who entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska with the Saints in 2019. He’s bounced between New Orleans, Jacksonville and New England in the NFL, appearing in 21 regular season games in his career.

Ozigbo has rushed 11 rushes for 25 yards and totaled 13 receptions for 72 yards in the NFL. He’ll likely compete with Stevie Scott III and JaQuan Hardy for the team’s RB4 job over the next week.
