British Gas issues mobile phone message to help customers claim back £60

  • by

Brits who live in the UK and own a mobile phone have been issued with some vital advice from British Gas. With winter on its way, many people are worried about how they are going to keep their families warm and fed as bills skyrocket.

Electricity bills are becoming more and more expensive, with many finding that turning appliances off rather than leaving them on standby isn’t even softening the blow. Due to the unbelievable height to which bills are climbing, even those on salaries as high as £45,000 are scared they will have to choose between heating and eating, it has been claimed.

With the cost of living crisis suffocating people across the country, British Gas has suggested one way in which Britons could save £60 per year, reports the Manchester Evening News. In a recent blog post by the energy provider, it shared ten top tips which may come in handy when trying to save money on heating your home.

One of the tips is to unplug your phone and laptop chargers when you are not using them. The website states: “Across the country, people are unnecessarily overcharging their mobile phones and laptops.

“Instead, as soon as your device is fully charged, try and get into the habit of unplugging it. Not only will this save energy, it also prolongs battery life. It could also save you about £60 a year on your electricity bills. “

You could save £60 a year by unplugging your phone as soon as it reaches 100% battery charge

Although they may be a small investment in the meantime, buying some energy efficient devices can really help you claw back the cash. British Gas suggests investing in a Hive Plug, which costs just £39 and works as an adapter, between a charger and a plug, and can be used to switch off any charger on the app.

Switching to smart LED bulbs like Hive Lights is also a good idea. They can be switched on and off remotely, and tend to last much longer than traditional bulbs do, making them less wasteful.

Other tips which British Gas suggest is to do full laundry loads, use the eco-setting on your dishwasher or boiler, try not to overfill your kettle, turn down the temperature in your washing machine and update your heating system.
