CHARLESTON, Ill. – A brace by Jenna Little was what Eastern Illinois women’s soccer needed to wrap up a successful opening weekend of the 2022 season.
Little scored both goals in the Panthers’ 2-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon as EIU went 1-0-1 during the opening weekend of play.
Little scored in the 64th and 66th minutes of the game as EIU found a quick second goal after breaking through for their first tally of the season.
Little’s opening goal came off a nice cross Serra Pisano which Little sent home with a right foot from the top of the goal box.
Her second goal came as EIU flipped the field on a counter Amanda DaSilva crossing a ball to the front of the net. Ella Onstott had a first shot with Little sending home a second chance for the goal.
On the defensive end, Daniela Bermeo turned in her second straight clean sheet with eight saves. She made one point blank save late in the second half after EIU had built its two goal lead. PFW would also miss on a penalty kick opportunity with the shot going wide off the post.
Little had three of EIU’s seven shots on goal. Marisa Metzger and Kelsey Gallagher had two shots on goal each to lead the Mastodons who fell to 1-1 on the season.
