AUSTIN – Bowie returned home from the UIL Class 3A Boys State Golf Tournament toting more than their clubs.
The Jackrabbits had some extra hardware in their bags, finishing third in the team standings with a two-day total of 643.
The Rabbits shot 325 during Monday’s first round at Jimmy Clay Golf Course, sitting in fifth place. They shaved seven strokes off that score for a second-round total of 318.
Callisburg (298-315—613) won the team title with Brock Gold (311-310—621) taking second.
Bowie was led by Cy Egenbacher (78-78—156) whose consistency led him to a ninth-place overall finish. Egenbacher was joined on the team by Andrew Sandhoff (82-80—162), Zac Harris (78-85—163), Hunter Lea (87-79—166) and Rayder Mann (88-81—169).
The medalist gold was won by Orangefield’s Xander Parks with a two-day total of 142. Callisburg’s Boo Moerschell (69-76—145) was second and Brock Gold’s Jayton Vaughan (75-72—147) placed third.
CROWELL’S HERNANDEZ FINISHES SIXTH
KYLE – Crowell’s Braydon Hernandez battled to a two-day total of 161, earning a sixth-place finish at the UIL Class A Boys State Golf Tournament.
Hernandez shot 78 in Monday’s first round at Plum Creek Golf Course and followed it with an 83 on Tuesday. Chester’s Will Thomason (78-75—153) won gold by a stroke over D’Hanis’ Kenny Arnett (75-79—154), who was just two strokes in front of Sidney’s Grant Dummond (77-79—156) in third .
Northside’s Carter Halencak (86-82—168) tied for 14th in the medalist standings.
The Wildcats finished ninth as a team with a total of 747. Hernandez was joined on the team by Austin Hernandez (93-89—182), Ty Halsell (102-102—204), Cooper Carroll (106-102—208) and Michael Hudgens (98-121—219).
Wildorado (346-348—694) won gold, Borden County (341-364—705) took silver and Earth-Springlake (351-358—709) garnered third.
