Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka could face disciplinary action after an alleged “intimate and consensual” relationship with a female staffer, according to The Athletic.

Udoka, who led the Celtics to the NBA Finals in his first season as coach, could be disciplined due to a violation of organizational policy.

According to ESPN reports, Udoka is facing a “significant” suspension that could potentially last the entirety of the 2022-23 season. He is not expected to be fired from his role as the Celtics head coach.

Celtics assistant Joe Mazzulla is likely to be Boston’s interim coach in the event Udoka is suspended.

Udoka oversaw a stunning turnaround in his rookie season as coach, with the Celtics finishing the regular season with a 51-31 record before reaching the NBA Finals.

The Celtics looked headed for their 18th NBA title when they surged to a 2-1 lead against the Golden State Warriors, before Stephen Curry inspired his side to win the next three games.

Behind All-Star duo Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Boston is once again among the title favorites in a loaded Eastern Conference along with the likes of Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Miami and Brooklyn.

The Celtics will be in action in the first game of the 2022-23 regular season when they host the Philadelphia 76ers on October 19 AEST.
