Bosio thrilled by ‘insane’ Augusta invite

Justis Bosio got the letter every golfer dreams of, but was not there to open it.

So the Queensland teenager had to watch on her phone as her parents revealed an invitation to this year’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

Bosio, who won the national women’s order of merit in 2022, was runner-up at the Australian Amateur in Sydney earlier this month.

She will tee off alongside Karrie Webb and Geoff Ogilvy on Thursday at the Mornington Peninsula’s Rosebud Country Club TPS Victoria knowing a date with Augusta awaits in late March.

“I set (Augusta) as a goal a couple of months ago. I knew I would be close,” she said.

“I was top 70 when they started sending invitations out.

“I got an email… saying that I was identified as a potential player.

“They wanted my details which I filled out, but I thought that I was just a maybe.

“I was at the airport (when I was emailed). I thought, ‘What else could they be sending me?’.

“I’m so excited. I don’t have any words to explain how excited I am.

“It feels insane that I’ll play that course, whether I play well or I play bad.”

The elite amateur tournament is a three-round event, the first two played at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta and the third at Augusta National.

Players who do not make the 36-hole cut have the opportunity to play at least the practice round at Augusta National.

Caboolture Golf Club’s Bosio will be joined by Australia-based Malaysian Jeneath Wong.

A handful of Australians have featured at the event since its 2019 inception, with Perth’s Kirsten Rudgeley (tied eighth last year) achieving the best result.
