Mark Borowiecki was taken from the ice on a stretcher in the second period of the Nashville Predators’ 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Saturday.
Borowiecki was going to play the puck along the boards behind Philadelphia’s net when he was checked by Flyers forward. Morgan Frost at 6:24. No penalty was assessed on the play.
Borowiecki remained motionless on the ice for several minutes before being placed on the stretcher. The entire Predators team came off the bench as he was being taken from the ice, as did the Flyers, who gave him stick taps as well.
“It’s never comforting when you see a player or teammate go down in that fashion,” Nashville coach John Hynes said. “I think when you saw it right away, when he hit the boards and then he went right down, you could tell it was a serious incident. He’s such a great guy, a big part of the team.”
The Predators later tweeted that Borowiecki was conscious and had movement in all of his extremities when he left the arena. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he will undergo further testing and observation.
“It’s nice to see that it looks like he’s going to be OK from the serious part of the injury,” Hynes said. “Obviously, he’s going to be banged up here for a little bit, but it’s… nice to see him be OK and be able to get back on the mend.”
