Mark Borowiecki is home after the medical team for the Nashville Predators determined he has no major injuries. His return to practice and game play is subject to further rest, observation and testing, the Predators tweeted Sunday.
The defenseman was discharged from Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Saturday. He was taken from the ice on a stretcher in the second period of a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Borowiecki was going to play the puck along the boards behind Philadelphia’s net when he was checked by Flyers forward. Morgan Frost at 6:24. No penalty was assessed on the play. He remained motionless for several minutes before being placed on the stretcher. The entire Predators team came off the bench as he was being taken from the ice, as did the Flyers, who gave him stick taps as well.
“It’s never comforting when you see a player or teammate go down in that fashion,” Nashville coach John Hynes said. “I think when you saw it right away, when he hit the boards and then he went right down, you could tell it was a serious incident. He’s such a great guy, a big part of the team.”
The Predators later tweeted that Borowiecki was conscious and had movement in all of his extremities when he left the arena.
“It’s nice to see that it looks like he’s going to be OK from the serious part of the injury,” Hynes said. “Obviously, he’s going to be banged up here for a little bit, but it’s … nice to see him be OK and be able to get back on the mend.”
