It’s been ‘flipping’ warm this week, to say the least. The very wet areas are starting to dry out nicely and the tractors are working hard keeping the grass down to good playing conditions. But as soon as they finish up the grass comes again, it’s never ending and a big thanks goes out to the staff for their hard work.
Still one or two visitors hanging around and still enjoying our course. Wednesday’s betterball was won once again by Deane Jooste this time with Brian Richards in tow for 41 points. Des Govender and Chriso Steynvaart came second with 40 and in third place came Alwyn Stander and Stephen Myburgh with Lulu the Yorkshire Terrier for company guarding their buggy. Mick Marriot and Roly Tickle scored the least number of points and were obliged to raise the Stone.
Dave and Janet Beckerly’s daughter Sarah Falle celebrated her birthday in the club on Saturday with a sponsored day. No numbers here, but had Sarah been a cricketer she would have held up her bat as she entered the club, ’nuff said. Hanging around for our great weather Les Huddle and Liaghn Moolman got the winner’s kiss from Sarah for their 40 point win in a mixed up game of Betterball, Greensomes and Foursomes split evenly through the 18 holes.
John Mills assisted Deane Jooste this time for a second place 39 points. Sarah’s mom Janet and Dolores McAuliffe took the ladies prize with nearest the pins going to Liaghn Moolman 2nd, Deanne Jooste 5th, TK Moodley 10th along with Hayley Gilliver who took the ladies. We welcomed back Coenie du Bruyn back for a short spell and he didn’t go home empty handed as he was reminded of the prize for Stone Last with Hilton McAuliffe assisting. Thanks to Sarah for a great day and here’s hoping there are many more to come.
Flyer’s footnote: I do not remember having met any golfer who did not consider himself/herself on the whole a remarkably unlucky one.
