STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red golf team evened its record at 1-1 with a duel match win against Edison on Monday.

Steubenville took a 172-219 win over the Wildcats at Steubenville Country Club.

Coach Scott Lane’s club was led by Bubby Reese, who was the match medalists with a score of 39.

Nick Nurczyk followed with a 43, Frankie Vostatek shot a 45 and Chris Elliot matched his total.

Edison, meanwhile, was led by a 51 from Aiden Ferguson.

Ryan Dinger turned in a 53, while Tristan Arnold shot a 57 and Luke Ferralli.

In the season opener on Thursday, Big Red fell to Buckeye Local in a close match, also at Steubenville Country Club.

The Panthers got the win with a 173, while Big Red came in just eight shots back at 181.

Buckeye Local’s Aiden Polanski was the medalist with a score of 41, while Kamden Kinyo (43), Gavyn Romanyak (44) and Dominic Kempton (45) followed close behind.

Vostatek led Big Red with a 42, while Nurczyk shot a 44, Eliot a 47 and Vasile Matzorkis a 48.

The Panthers were also victorious on Monday, topping a quad with Indian Creek, Oak Glen and East Liverpool.

Polanski again led the way, shooting a 40, while Kempton shot a 42 and Preston Lindsay a 46.

Indian Creek’s Noah Tweedy shot a 40.

East Liverpool’s Nate Kelley shot a 38 to take the medalist honors.

Also on Monday, Edison shot an impressive score of 185 to win a three over John Marshall (236) and Monroe Central (252).

Edison’s Katie Phillips shot a 43, which was good enough for a medalist. She was two shots better than her teammates, Zoe Shell and Nicole Zullo.
