MANILA, Philippines — Beverly Place Golf Club of Pampanga won three of the four titles contested in the Luzon leg it co-hosted over the weekend then prevailed in the tiebreak to capture the coveted Club of the Year trophy in the Sta Lucia Golf Tour 2022.

Victories by the tandems of Jericho Maceda/Michael Mangio (overall), Eduardo Sobrepena/Reymond Manalansan (Class B) and Angelito Pineda/Johnny Sambo (Class C) highlighted the rousing comeback of Beverly Place after failing to get a single point in the Mindanao leg last month.

The Pampanga club chalked up 14 points to tie Rancho Palos Verdes of Davao for the top award of the 72-hole event played in the four different courses. Team Beverly Place won by virtue of having more points from the Luzon leg that also included Friday’s first 18 holes at Pinewoods Golf Club in Baguio, getting six from the overall win and four each for topping Class B and Class C.

The Eagle Ridge pair of Gary Sales and Lauren Enrique prevented a Beverly sweep by taking Class A honors, posting 135 for a two-stroke win over Summit Point’s husband-and-wife tandem of Roger and Ahily Kidwell.

Abraham Lacaya and Brian Good salvaged two points for Rancho Palos Verdes by finishing second a mere stroke behind the 137 of Sobrepena and Manalansan in Class B while Regent Asterio Lagura and Josef Maganduga put Royale Tagaytay in the points column with a runner-up finish in Class C where Pineda and Sambo finished eight strokes ahead with their 130.

Credit goes to our players for grinding all the way to the finish. We were disheartened by our zero production in Davao but fortunately we got the breaks when we needed them,” said Beverly Place general manager Elson Alvaran.

No effort was bigger than that of Maceda and Mangio who combined for a best-ball 11-under 61 net that clinched the overall award for Beverly Place.

Sta. Lucia Land, Inc. and Sta. Lucia Realty & Dev. Inc. were the presenters of the Sta. Lucia Tour which was revived after a five-year hiatus. VMJ Evergreen Golf Construction & Maintenance and Laus Group of Companies were major sponsors, Soto Grande Davao, Microtel Baguio and Microtel Pampanga were hotel partners, Manduto Restaurant Baguio and Ceazars Fairways Pampanga served as restaurant partners and Kart Plaza (Yamaha Golf Cart) and Puma- Srixon Proshop (Cobra Ltdx Iron Set) were hole-in-one sponsors.

Sta. Lucia Land chairman Vicente Santos handed out the top awards to the winners together with the general managers of the 11 participating clubs.
