Free sports sessions that are being run throughout the summer in Tilehurst are already proving to be popular among local children.
Run by Berkshire Youth, Tilehurst Parish Council and MNR Coaching, the ‘sports in the park’ sessions encourage young people to try their hand at a variety of different sports.
The summer holiday sessions take place in three parks across Tilehurst for children and young people aged eight and over and will continue to run until the last week of August.
One parent said that the “enjoyable” sessions had “lots of variety” and were “inclusive of all abilities”.
Another parent said: “The session was really good and there were lots of people in attendance.
“The staff were really friendly and helpful and the children were enjoying it.
“There is a great selection of sports throughout the week.”
The sessions are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with three sessions running on each day that all feature multiple different sports.
Monday’s offerings include basketball, pillo polo and a step challenge, while Wednesday’s include rounders, athletics and dodgeball, and Friday’s include archery, tri-golf and football.
The hour-long sessions run between 2pm and 3pm at Cotswold Playground, 3.30pm and 4.30pm at the Cornwell Centre, and 5pm and 6pm at Turnhams Farm Hall.
Those who wish to take part in the sessions can turn up to any of the sessions that interest them and there is no need to book.
