An overzealous security guard has ruined a soccer star’s romantic proposal to his girlfriend, shoving the woman out of the way as the player went down on bended knee during a match.
Belarusian star Vladislav Shubovich, who plays for FC Smorgon, was appearing in the side’s 2-0 win over Volna Pinsk, when the game was momentarily paused as he walked towards the sideline.
The 22-year-old then got down on one knee as his girlfriend approached the sideline.
The enthusiastic security guard rushed in between the pair and violently shoved the woman away.
A furious Shubovich clashed with the guard as his teammates rushed in to support him.
The video quickly went viral, with more than 10 million people watching the moment on Twitter.
Some fans were quick to condemn the security guard’s actions, with one writing: ‘Right or wrong. You don’t man handle a woman like that’, with another concurring: ‘The way he shoved her? That’s assault.’

Others believed he was simply doing his job.
‘If she’d walked on the pitch and assaulted the bloke you’d have something to moan about! Guy just doing his job,’ one commented, with a second agreeing: ‘Steward was in the right, awful from the players.’
Fortunately, the story does have a happy ending.
The security guard was pushed out of the way, and Shubovich got down on one knee again, with his applauding teammates rallying around him.
