Beastly ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 lands with a Zen 4 Ryzen 9 mobile CPU and up to a GeForce RTX 4090

ASUS has announced the new 2023 ROG Strix SCAR 17 with top-of-the-line hardware and a much-improved cooling solution. Measuring 395 x 282 x 23.4-28.3 mm, ASUS’s desktop replacement carries a sharp design with the familiar illuminated ASUS logo on the back and an RGB lightbar on the front.

Overall, the company hasn’t strayed far from last year’s ROG SCAR 17 SE.

The 2023 ROG Strix SCAR 17 packs a 17-inch IPS panel with a 240 Hz refresh rate, 3 ms response time, and QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution as well as Dolby Atmos-certified speakers. ASUS claims the display covers 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut while being Nvidia G-SYNC and Dolby Vision HDR compatible.

The ROG Strix SCAR 17 comes with up to a flagship mobile Ryzen 9 7000 series processor and a 16 GB GeForce RTX 4090 with a max TGP of 175 W. There is also a MUX switch to eliminate any potential bottlenecks.

Both these components are cooled by the combination of a liquid metal and vapor chamber.

Moreover, the notebook is configurable with a user-replaceable 64 GB DDR5 4800 MHz memory and up to 2 TB of PCIe 4 storage. There is also an empty M.2 slot if you want to increase the storage down the line.

Network connectivity on the ROG Strix SCAR 17 is handled by Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Additionally, the laptop also features an ethernet port that can handle 2.5 Gbps speeds. Other ports include two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports with support for DisplayPort 1.4. Sadly, only one of the Type-C ports offers Power Delivery 3.0. There is also a single HDMI 2.1 connector, one 3.5 mm combo jack, and a single DC-in for power.

Powerful gaming laptops aren’t known for their endurance. This hasn’t stopped ASUS from offering a 90 Whr battery that you can fast-charge with a 100 W charger that comes in the box.

Finally, ASUS has yet to share a release date and pricing information for the ROG Strix SCAR 17.
