AYA NEO is moving into the Android gaming handheld market, two years after it brought its first Windows-based gaming handheld to market. Although the company is focused on delivering Windows-based gaming handhelds like the NEXT II, SLIDE and the AIR Plus, AYA NEO’s CEO wants to make an Android handheld that he wants to use. Details remain sparse for now, with no concrete launch date or pricing revealed at the time of writing.
So far, AYA NEO has confirmed that the device will be available as the Pocket AIR, which provides a hint about the device’s size. While AYA NEO has favored 7-inch displays for many of its devices, including the new AYA NEO 2, the Pocket AIR will ship with a 5.5-inch OLED display. Seemingly, the Pocket AIR will rely on the same display that AYA NEO already includes in the AIR and AIR Pro. If that is the case, then expect the Pocket AIR to offer a native 1080p resolution and 400 nits peak brightness.
Additionally, the Pocket AIR will contain hall triggers, hall joysticks and the usual array of gamepad buttons. AYA NEO has confirmed that it will also pre-install an AYA Space launcher with AYA NEO Home, although the device’s Android version remains unknown at this stage. In other words, the Pocket AIR may offer a similar user experience to the company’s Windows-based gaming handhelds. Currently, AYA NEO hopes to launch the Pocket AIR during Q2 2023, with Zhang adding that more information will be released within the next two months.
