Ange Postecoglou has a chance to become the first ever Australian to manage in the English Premier League.
The Aussie soccer mastermind is under consideration for a Premier League gig after Graham Potter left Brighton & Hove Albion for Chelsea.
A domino effect was started by Chelsea last week after they sacked Champions League-winning manager Thomas Tuchel in the wake of a shock 1-0 defeat to Croatians Dinamo Zagreb in the League’s first group stage match.
It compiled what has been a poor start from The Blues, who have dropped games against last year’s relegation battlers Leeds United and Southampton to sit sixth on the table after six outings.
Potter has had a remarkable rise from managing in the fourth tier of Swedish soccer to placing Brighton in the top four and was quickly identified as the favorite for the job.
The Seagull’s loss could turn into Postecoglou’s gain, with the Aussie having turned Scottish giants Celtic’s form slump around to win the Scottish Premier League title by four points over arch-rivals Rangers in the 2021-22 campaign.
The men in green hoops have also made the perfect start to the current season, going 6-0 to sit five points clear at the top of the table.
Postecoglou also took charge of Celtic’s Champions League return last week, where fans chanted his name in the Celtic Park stands despite being down 3-0 to European powerhouses Real Madrid.
Postecoglou had success in Japan’s J-League and won an A-League with the Brisbane Roar.
Brighton Midfielder Adam Lallana is currently keeping the seat warm as player-manager, but reports out of the UK suggest Postecoglou is on the list of managerial candidates.
But many are questioning whether the 57-year-old would abandon his Scottish project as he aims for back-to-back league titles.
Brighton are expected to whittle down a shortlist later this week.
