LUBBOCK, Texas – The Auburn track and field team closed out the three-day Texas Tech invitational tallying 23 new personal bests by 18 different athletes and three individual wins.
Auburn Junior, TJ Funches won the men’s high jump section B on Saturday with a new personal-best mark of 2.14m/7-0.25m. The Helena, Alabama native eclipsed his previous best of 2.12m/6-11.50 to become the No. 10th performer in Auburn history. junior fellow, Kamiya Dendy took the silver medal in the women’s high jump section B clearing 1.70m/5-7 for a new season best.
In the women’s long jump, junior Janaya Jones leaped to a new personal-best mark of 12.73m/41-9.25 to capture the silver medal. Jones surpassed her previous best of 12.61m/41-4.5 to become the No. 10th performer in Auburn history. Senior Amy Warren took fourth with a leap of 12.64m/41-5.75 on her second jump of the competition.
Coming off a PR in the 60m dash on Friday, sophomore Chante Clinkscale set another personal best clocking a 23.56 in the 200m to finish sixth overall.
Auburn concluded the meet as the quartet of freshmen Arianna Sharpe, Amirah Sharpe, Abasiono Akpanand sophomore Ashantae Harvey combined to take fifth place in the women’s 4x400m relay crossing the finish line in 3:37.54 good for fifth overall.
The Auburn track & field team will be back in action in two weeks as it splits the squad between the Tiger Paw Invite in Clemson, SC and the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn. January 10-11.
