Attallah Smith Honored by Atlanta’s Women of Color Initiative – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – Attallah Smitha senior on the Georgia Tech women’s track and field team, was honored with the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Impact Award by the Office of Minority Educational Development (OMED) in partnership with the Women of Color Initiative (WOCI) Atlanta collaborative in higher education.

As an environmental engineering major, Smith has consecutively received Dean’s List honors since the fall of 2020 and was awarded the HOPE Scholarship for her continued academic excellence.

On and off the track, Smith has demonstrated leadership to her teammates and other student-athletes. She holds valuable positions in multiple organizations including Chief of Staff on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board, representative on the ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Council, coordinator on the GTAA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council, Treasurer & Committee Chairperson of Xi Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and charter member & Vice President of the Georgia Tech NAACP Chapter.

Smith has also found time to dedicate herself to new educational experiences and advocate for her peers. She was selected to represent Tech at the ACC Unity Trip to Selma/Montgomery, Ala. this past summer in which attendees were given the opportunity to engage with key sites of the civil rights movement. In spring 2022, Smith traveled to Washington DC with other students to campaign for reductions in student school loans and debts.

During her time at Tech, Smith has shown great leadership skills and fully embodied the role of being a student-athlete.
