Andrews ISD announced on Tuesday that David Renfro has been hired to lead the boys soccer program, which will be entering its second year.
The hire helps Renfro return to West Texas. He was born in Denver City and raised in Levelland until the fifth grade. He is a 2003 graduate of Lewis University in Illinois.
Renfro comes to Andrews after five years at the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked with 7th-12th grade students with learning disabilities. He was also the head softball coach and was part of the wrestling coaching staff.
Renfro and his wife, Dayle, wanted to move to Andrews to be closer to their son, John, and his family.
“I wanted to come back to my roots in West Texas and be a bigger part of a small town community,” said Renfro in a press release. “Coming to Andrews has been a pleasant experience for my family and I. Being given the opportunity to both teach and coach at Andrews High School is a real blessing and I’m looking forward to the years ahead in the classroom and on the soccer field .”
Renfro had a lot of success as a soccer coach in the Chicago area, where he started his coaching career. As a middle school head girls soccer coach, he won five sectional championships and three state championships in eight years.
During the 2014-15 school year, Renfro was a member of the varsity girls soccer coaching staff at Plainfield North (Ill.) High School where he helped lead the team to a district championship and Top 15 national ranking.
“We are blessed to have Coach Renfro take over our boys soccer team,” Andrews Athletic Director Jaime Boswell said in a press release. “He has a passion for building a winning program and doing it the right way, and more importantly, he’s dedicated to producing future leaders of character.”
