Alongside the Intel-based IdeaPad Pro 5i 14 and IdeaPad Pro 5i 16, Lenovo also announced the AMD versions of the IdeaPad Pro — the IdeaPad Pro 5 14 and the IdeaPad Pro 5 16.
The IdeaPad Pro 5 14 and IdeaPad Pro 5 16 are upgrades to what we had previously seen with the IdeaPad 5 Pro 16 powered by the AMD Ryzen 5 6600HS APU with Radeon 660M graphics.
Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14
The Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14 offers a selection of AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS, Ryzen 7 7735HS, and Ryzen 7 7840HS APUs. The exact specifications of these APUs will be revealed during AMD’s official keynote at CES 2023 on Jan 3. That being said, the IdeaPad Pro 5 14’s spec sheet indicates that the iGPU will get a bump to the Radeon 700M series.
Unlike the 14-inch Intel variant, however, there is no discrete GPU option in the AMD version.
Like its Intel-based counterpart, the IdeaPad Pro 5 14 also offers a choice between 2.8K (2280 x 1800) 120 Hz and 2.2K (2240 x 1400) 60 Hz display options. Both panels are slated to offer 100% sRGB coverage and are TUV-certified for low blue light emissions.
Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 16
The Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 16 differs from the IdeaPad Pro 5 14 primarily in terms of dimensions, CPU, GPU, and the display. The IdeaPad Pro 5 16 offers an additional APU option — the Ryzen 5 7535HS — apart from the ones already offered by the IdeaPad Pro 5 14.
We also get to see discrete graphics options including the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU and the RTX 3050 Laptop GPU. According to Lenovo, the IdeaPad Pro 5 16 supports Dynamic Display Switch — a fancy term for Advanced Optimus — that allows direct connection between the display and the dGPU.
Similar to the Intel variant, the IdeaPad Pro 5 16 comes with just a 2.5K (2560 x 1600) 120 Hz IPS display option.
Both the IdeaPad Pro 5 14 and the IdeaPad Pro 5 16 offer a 25% larger touchpad and an FHD IR webcam with Time-of-Flight sensor, a physical privacy shutter, and a dual-microphone array.
Depending on the processor choice, the IdeaPad Pro 5 14 and IdeaPad Pro 5 16 can be configured with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 or LPDDR5x RAM, up to 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD, and Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth 5.1.
Port selection is once again similar to what we have seen with the Intel versions. The official specifications of the IdeaPad Pro 5 14 mistakenly mention it as offering Thunderbolt 4. Being based on AMD platforms, both notebooks offer 1x USB 4.0, 1x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C (PD+DP), and 1x HDMI 2.1-out. Additionally, we also get 2x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports, an SD card, and a combo audio jack.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14 and IdeaPad Pro 5 16 will be available in Arctic Gray and Frost Blue color options from May 2023 at prices starting from €1,099.
