Albert Pujols had quite a day for himself on Thursday afternoon as the St. Louis Cardinals blew out the Colorado Rockies and earned a sweep.
St. Louis won 13-0 and Pujols had a five-RBI game, including a pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the third.
Yes, you read that right.
A pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the third.
Pujols did not start, but when inserted into Brendan Donovan’s spot, he put the game out of reach with one swing of the bat.
He joined some rare company with that grand slam too, becoming the third player to hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the first three innings of a game.
Gene Freese did it in 1959, while Bobby Murcer did it in 1971.

Pujols Makes Slam History
Another day, another historic accomplishment for Pujols.
Not only was it a pinch-hit grand slam, but it was home run No. 690, which puts him 10 home runs shy of reaching the 700-homer plateau.
The way he’s been hitting, anything is possible.
It seems like every day, Pujols joins some historic company.
He most certainly is the best player on the list of players who have hit pinch-hit grand slams in the first three innings of a game.
That’s some rare company.
