Affordable gaming laptop done right

While the internals have been updated, the exterior has remained the same. This year’s Victus 16 comes in the same chassis as last year, so there are no exterior changes you would see, and it comes in color – the Mica Silver, which is essentially dark gray with a matte finish. Another colourway, Performance Blue, has a hint of blue but is reserved for the Intel variant. On top, you will find a huge ‘V’ embossed with ‘Victus’ near the hinge.

At first glance, you might have a hard time figuring out whether it is a 16-inch laptop or a 15-inch, but you will soon come to a decision the moment you hold it. At 2.48 Kgs, the Victus 16 is a heavy machine, and a little bit more to quality it as a portable machine. So, better to remember that it is not for those who want to take it with them on the go.

With affordable prices you get a not-so-premium build. Well, that may not stand true for every product, but it is for the Diet 16. The plastic does not feel premium, and the edges are too sharp. Moreover, the hinge mechanism is one of the poorest we have ever seen, as the display feels so flimsy that it wobbles if you type with heavy hands.

Meanwhile, the keyboard deck feels sturdy, but you can feel some flex on applying enough pressure. A little above the keyboard, you will see a grille for air intake, not speakers. There is another large vent at the bottom for an outtake.

As for the ports, there are enough ports for anyone’s needs. The right size accommodates largely most ports — a round barrel charging port, an Ethernet port, HDMI 2.1, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port (with DisplayPort 1.4, a 3.5mm audio combo jack, and a full-size SD card reader. You will find a pair of USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports on the left edge.
