A new GPU AIB maker backed by Acer’s expertise could prove beneficial for the market as a whole. However, rumor has it that the Predator cards will not feature any Nvidia GPUs any time soon, focusing only on Intel and AMD models at first.

Acer made a somewhat shy debut on the discrete GPU market last year with two Predator-branded Intel Alchemist cards that are barely available on the US market, and the company is now rumored to expand its dGPU offerings with AMD models later this year. According to a recent report posted by Chinese market watcher BoardChannels, Acer is also looking to expand Predator dGPU availability to reach more markets around the world.

Seeing that Acer started out with mid-range – entry-level dGPUs like the Intel A770 and A380, it is probably reasonable to assume that the new Predator-branded AMD Radeon models would also focus on the same segments. Although cryptominers and scalpers are not jacking prices that much anymore, the high-end GPUs still seem overpriced, especially on the Nvidia side, making it difficult even for established AIB partners to manage their profit margins. Acer might not provide any AMD high-end solutions right away, but the upcoming mid-range RX 7700 and RX 7800 GPUs should offer enough performance gains over the current Intel-based Predator cards, while maintaining competitive price/performance ratios.

The Chinese report mentions that Nvidia’s GPUs are not expected to be part of Acer’s portfolio at least in the early stage, most likely because of the high prices imposed by Team Green on its AIB partners.
