Plenty of Red Wings Hopefuls Among NCAA Top 100; NHL News and Rumors

Much is rightfully made about the prospect pipeline from Europe that is fueling the future of the Detroit Red Wings. However, don’t sleep on the potential that could be feeding the team from the college ranks.

The Hockey News recently released its ranking of the top 100 NCAA players, and six Red Wings draft picks cracked the top 75.

Fiesty Carter Mazur the reigning NCAA champion Denver Pioneers checks in at #20, with his Denver teammate, defenseman Shai Buium, slotting in at #33. Among them, forward Dylan James of North Dakota, a 2022 Detroit second-round pick, is at #27.

Mazur was recently named Ice Breaker Tournament MVP, netting three goals in two games as top-ranked Denver won the event.

A Red Wings pick who isn’t often discussed, Colgate goaltender Carter Gylander, comes in at #57. Forward Robert Mastrosimone (#62), who transferred from Boston to Arizona State in the offseason, and Miami forward Red Savage (#74) are other Red Wings draftees cracking the list.
