VENICE – An early Tuesday morning fire destroyed a residence on Vista Road at the Venice Municipal Mobile Home Park.
The 69-year-old resident – who was not named in a release from the city of Venice because she was treated as a patient – was alerted to the fire shortly after 5 am by a smoke detector installed three years ago by the Venice Fire Rescue Department, in partnership with the American Red Cross.
The woman and her dog escaped the house unharmed.
Fire engines from Venice, Sarasota County and the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department responded, as did the Venice Police.
The blaze was under control in minutes. The woman was treated for minor injuries by paramedics from Venice Rescue 52.
No other injuries have been reported.
More recent fires:
Venice Police assisted in evacuating surrounding homes in the area.
While officials were there, a neighboring mobile home started to smoke from radiant heat from the original fire and was quickly extinguished.
The occupant of that home and their dog had already been evacuated.
The smoke detector was still chirping while the home was engulfed in flames and even after the fire was extinguished.
There are no indications of arson or foul play. The fire is considered accidental with an undetermined origin at this time.
A Venice Fire Rescue crew remained on site Tuesday morning to mop up the scene.
