Nils Lundkvist was traded to the Dallas Stars by the New York Rangers on Monday.
The Rangers will receive a conditional first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and a conditional fourth-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft. If the Stars’ own first-round pick in 2023 is in the top 10, New York will get Dallas’ own first-round selection in 2024 instead, and that pick will be unprotected.
The 22-year-old defenseman had four points (one goal, three assists) in 25 games for the Rangers last season, and 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) in 34 games for Hartford of the American Hockey League.

Lundkvist was a first-round pick (No. 28) by the Rangers at the 2018 NHL Draft.
“Nils is a skilled, right-handed shot defenseman who adjusted to the North American game this past season and has a high ceiling,” Stars general manager Jim Nil said. “We felt that adding a creative player like Nils to our defensive group was necessary, and he has a tremendous opportunity to establish himself as an everyday, impact defenseman at the NHL level.”
New York will receive a third-round pick in 2025 instead of Dallas’ fourth-round selection if Lundkvist has 55 points over the next two seasons.
