‘It triggers traffic jams’: 100 protest against mobile tower on footpath | Ghaziabad News

GHAZIABAD: Residents on Sunday protested against a mobile tower encroaching on a footpath in Abhay Khand 3, saying that they have approached the Ghaziabad Development Authority for its removal several times since it came up in the area a year ago.
At least 100 protesters turned up and claimed the tower is why the adjacent road sees traffic jams regularly. Besides this, residents brought up issues, including broken roads, the deteriorating condition of parks, and an overflowing outer drain in Abhay Khand 1, at the protest.
“The mobile tower was installed in the middle of a footpath and creates traffic jams on the road. Also, the tower is just 25 meters away from the residential area. Its proximity can adversely and irreparably impact our health,” said RP Joshi, one of the protesters.
There are 42 societies and 5,500 flats in Abhay Khand. The protest started around 9 am and lasted until noon. “We initially asked the developer to remove the tower, but he said that the approval came from the GDA and that he would not shift it,” said Joshi.
Varun Joshi, another Abhay Khand resident, said, “Apart from the mobile tower, we protested against a host of issues — our area sees a lot of thefts and dacoities due to its proximity to the highway. We wrote several times to the GDA regarding the lack of security, but no proper arrangement is in place yet. The condition of the parks is also pathetic — full of garbage and frequented by drug addicts. So, residents hesitate to take walks there, and children are not allowed to go outside.”
A GDA official said the authority would look into the problems and find solutions soon.
