What a Jake Allen signing would mean to Montreal and the NHL

  • by

Hockey Insiders Kevin Weekes and Elliotte Friedman are both reporting that the Montreal Canadiens are engaged in contract talks with goaltender Jake Allen.

That makes sense. Allen is a proven performer. With Carey Price reportedly heading into retirement. The rebuilding Habs need Allen’s steadiness.

It seems likely that the Habs will get Allen signed. But what if they don’t sign? Montreal Hockey Now reported teams have inquired about Allen’s availability. Several teams are still looking to upgrade their goaltending. They see Allen as a viable option.

The NHL goalie market is weak. Unless the New York Islanders change their mind and deal Semyon Varlamov, there are no attractive options. That’s why some teams hope Allen doesn’t reach an agreement with Montreal.
