Canucks Daily: Ouch, NHL’s Arena Joke, New Trade Talk

  • by

Holy hangover, Batman. Sorry the ‘Canucks Daily’ is unexpectedly tardy this morning. Naturally, it only happens when there was a silly typo dangling overnight in the previous story. Ah, the simple things in life. As Wayne and Daryl might say, “pitter patter, let’s get at ‘er”.

Let’s Skate!

Love this. Pittsburgh Hockey Now writes:

TSN Video: Gord Miller has a good idea — exempt the Arizona Coyotes from the NHL revenue calculations. Will the Coyotes be able to sell out the 5,000-seat Mullet Arena?

So, so, so…embarrassing. Is the NHL hoping that there’s so little interest in the Coyotes that no one will notice they’re playing in a small college barn? Or will there be hundreds or even thousands of empty seats, EVEN IN a 5,000 arena? Perhaps AZ will give away free beer pong supplies, including the beer, to the first 4999 fans in attendance.

It’s comical, but I’m actually stoked to go to a game there. I suspect they will – oh my God, they’d better – sell out the 5,000 seats each and every night and the atmosphere will be fantastic. Better than it’s been since the early days of watching Jeremy Roenick, Keith Tkachuk and the gang at America West Arena from the obstructed view seats.

The team should have moved to Hamilton, Ontario a dozen years ago but Gary wouldn’t have it. Too bad, so sad. But I’m telling you, watching NHL games in a tiny barn should be as cool and as weird as being one of twelve people watching Stanley Cup playoff games in an otherwise empty Scotiabank Arena in the playoff bubble two years ago.

Vegas Hockey Now: With goalie Robin Lehner lost for the season and other players moved out of town, Owen Krepps asks — are the Vegas Golden Knights better?

Calgary Hockey Now: This is a beauty. There’s been a parody Twitter account run inside the Flames locker room for years that made fun of Sean Monahan. No one ever admitted to it, but now that he’s been traded to Montreal, Monahan spilled the beans about who started it. Calgary Flames laughter.

NY Post: Get your fresh trade rumors here! Hockey Hall of Fame honorary scribe Larry Brooks writes that the New York Rangers are trying to trade frustrated forward Nils Lundkvist.

See you back here in a bit for more NHL and Canucks news… Enjoy the start of the long weekend!
