UBCO golfer to tee off at Golf BC Championship – Sports

Local lefty set to tee off

A Kelowna resident will be chasing a little golf history at the PGA Tour Canada Golf BC Championship, hosted at Gallagher’s Canyon over the long weekend.

Justin Towil will tee off on Thursday. He grew up in Kelowna, is studying management at UBCO and is a member of the university’s golf team. The lefty has been added to the championship on a sponsor exemption.

Towil had a strong enough showing last year to earn a spot in the professional field, finishing inside the top 10 in three separate Canada West tournaments, highlighted by a third-place result at the Bears and Pandas Invitational and a tie for fifth at the Canada West Championship.

“I’m feeling good going into the tournament and it’s exciting to represent the Heat on a stage like this,” said Towill. “For me, the game plan and mindset going in will be about trusting my abilities and playing my own game, without being impacted by the stage.”

Towill has already recorded a tie-for-17th finish at the BC Amateur Championship, going below par in three of four rounds.

Last year the Heat were represented by Ethan Hunt at the PGA Tour Canada Golf BC Championship at Gallagher’s Canyon.
