Patrick Foppe

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University has announced a new head coach for its men’s and women’s golf teams.

Patrick Foppe replaces Bob Bastian, who had been in the position since 2017 and worked for several months before that on an interim basis.

Foppe is PGA certified in teaching and coaching and earned his degree in agribusiness with a concentration in professional golf management from Arizona State in 2010, according to a news release on the NMU athletics website, www.nmuwildcats.com.

He has 12 years of experience teaching and coaching golf and has worked with a handful of collegiate golf programs, most recently California University of Pennsylvania.

“Patrick brings extensive expertise in kinesiology and exercise science along with a passion for teaching that will benefit NMU student-athletes,” NMU Director of Athletics Forrest Karr said recently before leaving his position for Minnesota-Duluth. “His positive communication style will add value to an incredible team of accomplished NMU coaches and he will have the opportunity to benefit from (new interim athletic director) Rick (Comley)’s exceptional leadership.”

Foppe has a master’s degree in kinesiology from Texas Woman’s University. He said he plans to utilize his kinesiology knowledge to evaluate junior golfers for the program as well as assist with the overall development of the student-athletes at NMU.

“I am confident Patrick will provide our student-athletes with the tools necessary to unlock their potential and further excel as individuals and as a team,” said NMU assistant strength and conditioning coach, former NMU golfer and golf coach search committee member Caro Tripp. “His enthusiasm will provide a sense of community and will greatly benefit our athletes. I look forward to working with him and I can’t wait to see where he leads the program.”
