RED WING — Thanks to five first half goals, the season got off on the right foot for the defending Big Nine Conference champions.
Abdikarim Aabi was a big reason why, recording a four-point night with two goals and two assists. Owen Spaeth had a hat trick and Abdirisak Bulale scored a goal to go along with two assists for the Panthers.
“A good win for a first game,” Panthers coach Hal Houghton said. “Abdikarim Aabi, Owen Spaeth, Abdirisak Bulale led the way with multiple assists and goals. Joshua Kyei-Balfour did an outstanding job organizing our defenders and keeping the ball in control. Lots of credit all around.”

STEWARTVILLE — Lourdes jumped on Stewartville early and cruised to a 6-0 win over the Tigers in Hiawatha Valley League soccer.
The Eagles (2-0-1) scored three times in the first half. Jack Broadbent, Petyon Loeslie and Sam Theobald all scored then.
Broadbent finished with two goals. Lonzo had a goal and two assists.
“I was proud of the boys with how quickly they came out and gave immediate effort,” Lourdes coach Sean Kane said. “They did that for both halves and were able to capitalize on the chances they created.”
Stewartville slipped to 0-3-1.
