Faribault, Minn. — Minnesota State’s men’s golf team began its 2022-23 season by claiming the team title at the Maverick Invitational, which was played in Faribault the last two days.
The 36-hole tournament saw the Mavericks shoot rounds of 292 and 295 en route to a first-place total of 587. Jamestown (ND) was the next closest team with a 605 total.
There were 10 teams competing at the tournament, which was held at the Faribault Golf Club.
Marcus Belka shot rounds of 72-70 for a total of 142, which placed him second. Senior Ben Laffen (73-70–143), a two-time All-NSIC selection and last year’s NSIC Golfer of the Year, was third.
Alex Bradley (76-72–148) tied for fourth, Jack Klimek (73-76–149) was sixth, Ryan Darling (75-75–150) was seventh, Braden Goodahl (73-78–151) tied for eighth, Max Brud (78-74–152) tied for 10th, Joe Bigger (74-79–153) and Caleb Johnson (77-76–153) tied for 12th, Joe Adams (76-80–156) and Terry Kuhn (81-80–161) tied for 24th.
Next action for Minnesota State is Sept. 6-7 when the Mavericks take part in the NCAA Super Region Preview Sept. 6-7.
