Women’s Soccer Falls to Yellow Jackets 3-1

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The University of Indianapolis women’s soccer team traveled the four and a half hours to Institute, W.Va. to take on the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets. The Greyhounds went on to fall 3-1 in the afternoon contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets came out of the gate aggressively pushing deep into Greyhound territory. They capitalized on that, scoring the first goal of the contest off a 30-yard free kick by Fran Soares-Cupertino. They kept that momentum in their favor limiting the Hounds offensive pressure, with the first Hounds shot coming in the 27th minute. Just three minutes later it was a two-goal game in favor of the home team when Esther Dhiramo scored off a corner kick.

It was back and forth action to start the second period until the 60th minute when Soares-Cupertino netted her second goal of the game to give West Virginia State a 3-0 goal lead. UIndy was not to be shutout, however, Maria Herrero answered back with her second goal of the season at the 67th minute to make it 3-1. The game concluded from that point with only one more shot taken.
