Shaquille O’Neal is one of the icons of the NBAwinning four championships in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2006, accumulating a massive wealth that is reported to be $400 million.
His work and ability will have effectively set up his family financially for a few generations if that figure reported is true, but he won’t make it an easy ride for his children.
When the sad day comes and O’Neal passes away, his children will have to accomplish certain things to get their slice of the astronomical inheritance they’ll be due.
He appeared on Channel 7’s Sunrise, admitting that his eight children won’t just get a huge payout without earning it. His words were: “In order to get my cheese, you have to present me with two degrees.
“I just keep them motivated, I’m teaching about generational wealth right now. I tell them all the time we don’t need another NBA player in the house.
“If you want to play, I can help you get there; but I would rather see a doctor, dentist, hedge fund guy, a veterinarian, or a world traveler.”
The former LA Lakers star’s claim that the household does not need another basketball star, his eldest son, Shareef O’Neal could well be on his way to the big leagues in the sport.
Shareef is currently making a name for himself in college basketball and has been selected to play with the LA Lakers for the 2022 NBA Summer League.
However, following in the footsteps of such an iconic father, there will always be questions asked, with a former teammate of Shaq’s, Robert Horry, claiming that he is there due to nepotism, stating: “I picked up my phone, and I was getting ready to call Shaq like, ‘Yo man, you gotta tell your son … he can’t be playing off the damn O’Neal name.
“He gotta go out there and play. You gotta put forth some more effort man. You know Shareef’s such a nice kid, that I don’t know if he has that dog in him to go out there and take what he wants.”
Horry’s comments on the Big Shot Bob podcast weren’t ignored by Shareef, who quickly took to Twitter to defend himself, saying: “I know this outta love and no disrespect!!! I got you BIG SHOT but you know who raised me, I don’t quit. Always been taught to go get it and take it. Been heading in the right step … like I said I got you! You’ll see.”
Shaq’s morals and ethics are clearly working on his children who are working hard for their goals as per what Shareef has said, showing that his parental style is paying off big time to ensure his children have the best life possible whilst working for it and not coasting through.
