NFL Waterboys Salary: How much do NFL Waterboys get paid?

Many consider it as a lowly job, while others believe that it is the dream job due to the access you have to your NFL heroes. NFL waterboys are getting paid more than many of us would think that they would be making annually.

Their job is considered as just a stepping stone to a proper NFL coaching job, as waterboys get to follow all the teams’ trainings and games. They have close relationships with certain players and know what is going on at their team every moment.

To get a job as a waterboy you should first check the NFL official website in case there are openings. However, it is not easy to get one, with many teams employing family members or friends to do the job.

How much do NFL Waterboys get paid?

Former NFL player Jake Thieneman claimed in a TikTok clip that an average NFL water boy makes around $53,000, noting that the actual figure depends on the team’s status and the applicant’s experience.

“Now, there’s a misconception that these people just hand out water and towels,” Thieneman said.

“These are trainers on the athletic training staff. Most of them have athletic training degrees or [physical therapy] degrees and are learning the craft of treating players’ injuries and helping guys stay healthy.

“They tape guys up, provide other treatments before and after games, and throughout the week. So, look at this more as an apprenticeship to learn the craft instead of just carrying water bottles.”

Thieneman also explained that waterboys enjoy other benefits such as traveling with an NFL team and spending time with some of the stars.

Waterboys are also said to be getting free tickets for NFL games, while the majority of them receive free merchandise. Should they show enough potential, they could get promoted to actual coaches in the future.
