Portage County amateur golf news and notes for August 28

Great athletic directors apparently share successes.

Rich Brumbaugh, former athletic director for Mogadore and current assistant golf coach, enjoyed an ace at Prestwick Country Club in Uniontown, as previously reported.

On the same day, although details arrived too late for the previous column, Steve Matheos, Crestwood Local Schools’ retired athletic director, enjoyed his own ace at Fox Den Golf Course in Stow.

Playing in a senior traveling league, Matheos aced the 17th hole.

Nice when the coaches and athletic directors can show the young athletes how to accomplish goals.

Congratulations to both Matheos and Brumbaugh on their achievements.

Kent Roosevelt and Kent State alumnus Randy Dietz qualified as one of four players to advance to the 56th PGA Club Professional National Championship 2023 in New Mexico, beginning April 30.
