Men’s Soccer Plays to Draw Against NJIT

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Drexel men’s soccer team opened its season in Harrisonburg, Va., at the Fairfield by Mariott Invitational, hosted by James Madison. The Dragons faced the NJIT Highlanders on Thursday night and scored twice in the second half to even the score and end the game in a tie.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Dragons took 12 shots in total in their season opener. Eight shots were on target. The 12 shots more than doubled NJIT’s shot total of five.
  • Alessandro Capogna notched a complete game in the net for the Dragons. The junior transfer made two saves in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Dragons started the second half down by one goal. Graduate student Kyle Tucker earned his first goal of the season and the fourth of his career in the 53rd minute.
  • The Highlanders took the lead in the 59th minute but could not hang on to it. In the 73rd minute, Daniel Nesseler received a feed from Ori Arzi and tapped it past the Highlander goalkeeper to tie the game at two.

Drexel returns to Sentara Park on Sunday, August 28, to complete its appearance in the Fairfield by Mariott Invitational, hosted by James Madison. The Dragons will face the Binghamton Bearcats at noon.
