Maracina Tallies Second Goal in Three Games, but Women’s Soccer Falls at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. — Freshman Hannah Maracina scored her second goal in three games to give the Stony Brook women’s soccer team a 1-0 advantage but the host Quinnipiac Bobcats would score two in the second half, including an 85th-minute winner, to win 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.

The loss snapped Stony Brook’s two-game winning streak to start the season.

Maracina broke the scoreless deadlock just over five minutes into the game after she was played in 1-on-1 against the keeper by freshman Lynn Beck. She right-footed it calmly into the bottom left corner to give the Seawolves the early advantage.

In a very open contest, both teams put 10 shots on frame but it was Rebecca Cooke who made the difference, scoring two in the second half to grab the win.

Reilly Rich was a persistent threat, totaling six shots with five on frame in 86 minutes of action, but did not find the net. Emerson Richmond Burke made three saves in a scoreless first half, while Ava King saved five of the seven shots on frame in the second 45.
